Covid-19: Pennsylvania Reports Highest Daily Positive Coronavirus Count

Pennsylvania on Thursday reported its largest daily count of new, positive coronavirus since the pandemic began, state health department officials said.

A total of 4,982 patients were hospitalized and 1,048 were in intensive care units, state officials said.

The daily increase of 11,406, reported at midnight, was the state's highest daily count,  bringing the statewide positive COVD-19 case total to 386,837.

Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. 

As of midnight Wednesday, there were 187 new COVID-19 deaths reported for a total of 10,944 deaths attributed to coronavirus in Pennsylvania, according to state health department figures.

Mask-wearing is required in all businesses and whenever leaving home. Consistent mask-wearing is critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 37,324 resident cases of COVID-19, and 7,027 cases among employees, for a total of 44,351 at 1,300 distinct facilities in Pennsylvania's 65 counties.
